Authority Intelligence Lab

Building Digital Authority That AI Systems Recognise

We do not optimise web pages for search engines. We build the digital authority on which search engines and AI systems decide whether an organisation is a source worth trusting — and which remains legible to human readers at the same time.

📌 Navigate the DAE Framework

DAE Framework · DAE Glossary · Authority Intelligence

Not an SEO agency with an AI label

The obvious category does not fit, and it is better to say so than to leave the reader guessing. This is not search engine optimisation with a new coat of paint, and not public relations that has discovered AI. The difference is not the label. It is the question.

📌 Three questions, three levels

Search optimisation asks: How does this page rank better?

Generative engine optimisation asks: How do we improve the odds this content gets cited?

Digital Authority Engineering asks: Why would any system — human or machine — recognise this organisation as a trustworthy source in the first place?

That third question sits one level below the other two. GEO, AEO and LLMO are tactics at the content layer: useful instruments, and we use them. But they operate on material that has already been deemed retrievable. The prior question — what makes an entity legible, verifiable and citable at all — is the one this practice is built around.

It sits at an intersection that is rarely occupied as a whole: how retrieval systems find and weigh information, how organisations earn external credibility, how knowledge about entities is structured and made machine-readable, and how AI models select and weight the sources they cite.

The lab

GaryOwl.com is a working lab, not a brochure.

Every method is tested on this site before it goes anywhere near client work. Measurement protocols are published. Failures and self-corrections are published with them, because a method that has only ever been reported as working has not been tested.

📌 What is open to inspection

A published framework with a versioned glossary of defined terms.

Own measurement, with the protocol stated and its limits stated with it.

An evidence tier system applied to every empirical claim, from peer-reviewed research down to vendor studies with disclosed conflicts of interest.

Corrections in public when a source turns out to be weaker than first assessed.

The claim is not that this produces certainty. It is that the reasoning is inspectable — which is the part most of this field leaves out.

GaryOwl.com and octyl

GaryOwl.com is not a commercial service platform. It is the experimental publishing and research environment operated by octyl, used to document and test ideas, frameworks and methods around Authority Intelligence and Digital Authority Engineering.

Commercial services, client work and formal engagements are provided exclusively by octyl under separate agreements, and via the company site at octyl.io. GaryOwl.com should therefore be understood as an experimental lab and knowledge base, not as a standalone commercial brand or legal entity.

Research areas

Behind GaryOwl stands a Switzerland-based consultant and lecturer working on Authority Intelligence, Digital Authority Engineering (DAE), RAG optimisation for content authority, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and EU AI Act compliance for enterprise AI strategies.

Frequently asked questions

Is this SEO or GEO?
Both are part of the work, neither is the whole of it. SEO and GEO are tactics at the content layer. Digital Authority Engineering operates one level below: on whether an organisation is recognised as a credible entity at all — by retrieval systems, by AI models, and by people.

Is this PR or reputation management?
Digital reputation is part of it, but the measure is different. Not media coverage in itself, but whether that reputation is expressed in signals a machine can read and verify: entities, structured data, sources that corroborate each other.

Is GaryOwl.com a commercial service?
No. GaryOwl.com is the research and publishing environment. Commercial engagements are handled exclusively by octyl under separate agreements, via octyl.io.

Is the framework peer-reviewed?
No. DAE is a working framework built from published research, documented measurement and ongoing lab observation. Claims carry an evidence tier, and where a claim rests on our own measurement rather than external research, it is labelled as such. Independent replication has not yet taken place.
